Cooking up a real ( Spring ) storm today :)

Into the fire with Wild Nothing a one-dude effort from
Virginia, then Young Friends a 2-piece from Phoenix, followed by one of two tracks - firstly by Love in Athens ( and later from the ever blissful Spring Boutique ) - from a free download compilation "Young Ballade" ( easiest to grab yours via here along with the earlier comps in the series ), the 4th installment in the great series of Filipino comps curated by Dale of Apple Orchard ( who by the way have a new 100 only cdr-ep called "Leafy Lanes" out - which you can buy here )....and great news - there is a Volume 4b in that series of comps called "Music To Hold Hands By - a Tribute to The Lucksmiths" ( I am more than certain to feature songs in future episodes, being a total Filipino Fan ) also via the Filipino Indiepop Scene myspace, essential viewing !! ( also on Facebook, but I have "temporarily retired" from Facebook - long story....)

Montecarlo are from Indonesia and are about to release a 3"cdr ep on Lovely Records ( who brought us the Annemarie album a few years back ), then a mysterious band called Revulax, who sent three songs as a demo into the Indiepages Demo Of The Week, only to promptly disappear off the face of the internet-osphere, leaving very little info behind...shame..where ARE you guys...and er...WHO are you ????..great demos, "Molehills" was just one of 3 great songs...

Then it's the wonderful Sunshower Orphans from NY and Young Michelin from Alin in France, two tracks from the wonderful ( free ) net label Holiday Records - if you haven't cottoned onto them, whizz on over and download some VERY tasty tracks....trust me :p

And major thanks today for some seriously good tipoffs - firstly from a friend of this blog Jose Antonio who kindly put me onto The Sunbathers a ( delightful ) duo from the UK and The Nations from Uppsala in Sweden ( as well as some other great bands which I'll get to in upcoming editions ) and then to Ryan from The Three Potato 4, who have a terrific album out called 'Savant"
( a follow up to a Best Kept Secret tape ) via Series Two and various fine download institutions ala eMusic etc - so thanks for the tipoffs guys, I love it !

The Cavalcade I'm sure you know and love by this, today's song from their Edition59 ep, and finally Bakers at Dawn have a free download album called "You Must Hide Your Love Forever" which you can grab here.

ok....you know how it goes, enjoy :)

#53 - for the love of LMC :)

LMC - Leaving Mornington Crescent. Love 'em. Said it before yeah, but love 'em.

Diehard ( or go home !! )

Great new song from the upcoming Strawberry Whiplash ep on Matinee - with much thanks for the tip off from Ryan - wow, great song, thanks for that Ryan :)

The Horse Shoes is a free download song from Holiday Records ( same dudes who brought us the Drums v Knight School effort from last mix )

The Isolation are Gothenburgites, Emily & The Faves & Stealing Sheep
are from the UK ( the latter wouldn't be out of place on a WeePop 3" ) , Jodi In The Morning Glory Parade from Indonesia, like Brilliant at Breakfast who will come out soon on Susy Records - after LMC of course !! ).

The US & A are represented by All In the Golden Afternoon and Land of Ill Earthquakes ( great cassette currently out on Bridgetown Records ) as well as one half of The Champagne Socialists ( the other half being a Glaswegian Royal We-er type person ) - 'Blue Genes" one side of a new minty green vinyl 7 on Slumberland - love it. admire it more and buy it here :)

Now...having said that...guess what ?? They're now called Neverever !! Sheesh...hard to keep up...all is explained here ( plus other great songs to hear !! )

And definitely worth a checking out is Jane Woody & Angel Eyes
from Brisbane, her latest album is called "Total Miracles" and you can buy one from her myspace but hurry - nearly sold out !!

and yes I can sooo hear Alexis from The Motifs singin' along in the Stars in Coma track ( from the recent "Sisters" album ) - and so can you if you try :)

enjoy it all :)

#52 night sky, graveyards, summertime, bushfires

lots to mention today but before I get to all that here's the tracklist 'n' stuff

podcast 52 ( edit ) - link for mp3
( Sunny Summer Day track removed at request of artist )

!! - Humans Beware Podcast 52

1.
Twenty Years - Outerhope
2. Found Love In A Graveyard - Veronica Falls
3. Winged Rumour - Look Blue Go Purple
4. The Sun Was High ( So Was I ) - Best Coast
5. Left To Fight - Oblako Lodka
6. Night Sky - The Motifs
7. Who Do You Love - Museum of Bellas Artes
8. Dos & Dont's - Tailor Made For A Small Room
9. Loved Up - Korallreven
10. Crawl ( Andy Morrison Mix ) - Small Crew
11. Kirsty - Maple Leaves
11. Sunburn - Pearl Harbour
13. Strangling Good Guys - Trailer Trash Tracys
14. When I'm Gone - Vivian Girls
15. Let's Go Surfing ( Knight School version ) - The Drums
16. Dead Snails - Hearts! Attack

starting off with a delightfully catchy song by Outerhope from the Philippines....

( Sunny Summer Day track removed at request of artist )
followed by a wonderful collaboration between Cris Miller of Silver Screen and Sunny Summer Day, recorded during a recent visit Cris made to Indonesia
( Sunny Summer Day track removed at request of artist )

then it's onto a brilliant track by Veronica Falls, from the UK, who come to us from a lineage of Sexy Kids-Royal We-Your Twenties members, 'Found Love In A Graveyard' the only recorded song that's so far surfaced from them, but there's rumours of a Captured Tracks release on the way

after the usual top-notch-gear from Look Blue Go Purple, it's off to LA for Best Coast, and a forthcoming 7" on Art Fag, a follow up to the ( sold out ) ( sadly ) cassette "Where The Boys Are" ( which was on Blackest Rainbow )

then we have two tracks connected to Alexis of The Motifs - obviously a Motifs track from their Cosy ep called "People Like Us" ( as usual full of wonderful songs that stay in your head for weeks ) - and also Oblako Lodka, another Melbourne band which features Alexis, though it's not Alexis' band, if it's anyone's "band" it's probably more a side project of Irit from Cordelle. I found a great podcast put together by Peter Josph Head called the "Terrace House Podcast"
and he interviews Irit about Oblako Lodka and also has a 2 part chat with Alexis of The Motifs - which is an especially good listen if you're a diehard lover of The Motifs ( like me ).

after the Motifs lovefest it's over to Sweden for Museum of Bellas Artes and also from dear old Svenska is Korallreven, a colloboration between Johan from Radio Dept, and Marcus Joons, this new fangled beachwave/lo-fi surf thing then continuing through Pearl Harbour ( you can pick up a cassette from their myspace ) ( and later a Knight School mix of The Drums )

Tailor Made For A Small Room are from Japan and a side project of Ayumu of 4 Bonjour's Parties and Miwa from Lost in Found. Trailer Trash Tracys are a UK 3 piece, Maple Leaves are Glaswegians, Viv Girls obviously you know !! "When I'm Gone" being a track from their next album "Everything's Gone Wrong".

The Small Crew song is from a live recording they did for the Andy Morrison sessions on Dandelion Radio, the tracks you can pick up from Small Crew's myspace, or no doubt you can hear them by tuning into Dandelion :)

you know what to do - go forth and..

please enjoy :)

#51 - and a little bit more

A little longer than usual mix on this one as I'm about to disappear into a work vortex for a month or so.

Catching up with some old faves is the flavour of today - The Airfields, Strawberry Whiplash ( a preview of their next ep ), The Mare, Summer Cats ( a song from their upcoming album "Songs for Tuesdays" - coming to the world via Slumberland on July 14 ), The Pale Corners, Leaving Mornington Crescent ( which I suspect will be coming out on Susy Records soon, along with Pop at Summer ) and Horse Shoes ( which is track from the Shelflife pack which is due soon ).

Boa Constrictor are the latest brillant discovery by Cloudberry from Sweden and have released a split 3" with The Cavalcade. Love it. Lean Tales who you know I also love are just about to release a 4 track ep on Bubblegum Records, which is maybe probably out by this, check it out :)

Allo, Darlin' is probably better known as either The Darlings and then later Elizabeth Darling of WeePop! fame ( where there a new Allo, Darlin ep called "Henry Rollins Don't Dance" ), the track here today is the Allo, Darlin contribution to the Bruce Springsteen covers comp called "Play Some Pool, Skip Some School, Act Real Cool - A Global Tribute to Bruce Springsteen" which you can grab from WIAIWYA.

And then there's four fabulous Filipino songs, also all covers - the comp is called "Under The Covers" and is the 3rd installment in Dale Marquez's Filipino bands comps, - really worth grabbing via here. From that today it's a JAMC song Wenteltraps style, Dale's Some Gorgeous Accident do the Railway Children, Sonnet LVIII tackle Close Lobsters and The Jealous Sea cover Aberdeen. Couldn't ask for more !!

please enjoy, back after work finishes sucking my soul :)

cracking the big 5-0- #50 :)

A few covers in the bag today - obviously a Pain's cover from The Bilinda Butchers ( immediately love them because of the name ) from France and then a Tullycraft cover by MLS from the Magic Marker 10th anniversary singles box.

Socialist Leisure Party must be really happy-chappy(s) with releases out now on Shelflife and soon on Cloudberry, on top of their Edition59 release last year. "Scented Crowbar" from the CD-half of the Shelflife pack and 'Turktown Saints" will be a Cloudberry 7" any day now.

Some Svenska friends today in the form on New Found Land,
Frederick Stähl and the ever amazing Girl Alliance ( thankfully also coming to us soon on Cloudberry )

And on the UK front - I've got two words for you - The Cavalcade.

Sometimes you hear a band and "just know" within 2 seconds of listening. The Calvalcade are such a band :)

Also from Old Blighty are The Seven Inches , from Leeds and the all new label Indie MP3 Records ( now doesn't that sound like a great idea ? )

and not forgetting a new Pocketbooks single from their upcoming album "Flight Paths"

all good in the hood I trust - please enjoy :)

#44 - the Girls are with us - and Moskva...oh and Lisle :)

That's girls of the Viv AND Dum Dum variety...

Here we are back after the holidays - remembering it's a sunny summer here in Australia at the moment, so my attention to the blogosphere/podosphere is in serious catch up mode today.

Starting with some sublimeness from Two If By Sea, which is a duet of Lisle from Fireflies and Teresa of The Haircuts - a magic combo indeed !!

Then the Vivs and their Beach Boys cover from their last single - yeah the one with the tacky t-shirt that took over 8 weeks to get to my place :(

Then happy to say it's time to play another Very Truly Yours song ( also featuring Lisle - aaaah love ya work mate !! ) - coming out on a Cloudberry split ep with The Understudies

The Tomatometers is a one man ( Bruno ) outfit outa the UK, and then another one person outfit Dum Dum Girls - and what an outfit she is !!!

Oh YES. Dum Dum Girls. A very BIG YES.

And because I think like that I reckon you need 2 songs - they have had one ( sold out ) ep on Zoo Records ( "Catholicky" is from there ) and have three other releases coming out on various labels - "Yours Alone" from a 12"Ep soon on Captured Records - if you look at the Dum Dum Girl's myspace all is revealed...

Sea Lions - another huge tick, their Yay! record is finally here and ready to purchase
, and until my copy is in my hot little hands I thought another myspace rip of them was on the agenda today.

Burning Hearts, who we've also played a few other times will shortly release their debut album "Alboa Sleeping" on Shelflife - "Iris" being a sneak preview to entice you to head on over Shelflife's way and pre-order a copy now :)

Another totally essential pre-order in your life is the split 7 of Moscow Olympics and Morning Paper, out in about a week on Lostmusic.

Then we have a new Mai 68's track followed by a few releases on Susy Records - a Pristines ep and PaddlePOP from Singapore.

Finally it's The Glasses, another one man Seattle outfit ( Will ), "Paper Airplanes" from a free downlaod album called Story Problems, which is worth a download/listen.

So all in all an action packed little 46 mins 11 seconds here for you to kick off the year :)

#43

In what must be considered a truly wonderful act The Manhattan Love Suicides released two 7" singles within a month of each other - bless their souls....today we kick off with the b-side of the second of those "The Kessler Syndrome" ( on Squirrel Records ). Then it's over to Edition59 for Broken Down Lorry's 3"cdr on that label ( ditto for The Pristines track later on ).

Plastilina made my year by putting out the TWIG album "Life After Ridge" - on todays mix we have a very Moz idea in the song 'Please Don't Turn Me Into A Murderer" but who's complaining ??

Catwalk you know from Yay! I hope, and the few times ( like today ) I've snuck a myspace demo of theirs on here...

Little My is another great
WeePop! excursion, this one "Little My's Seventh" available as both 3"cdr and 7" vinyl. "Doubleplusgood" is name of the debut album from Bubblegum Lemonade on Matinee, Sexy Kids of course brilliantly and beautifully on Slumberland, Champagne Riot on Shelflife, Play People is a 7 coming soon on Cloudberry, the Christopher Sander track is on Swedish label called Vesper Records, the CD by Baby Grand is called "Lights Are Getting Low" and you can snavel one up from their myspace and Help Stamp Out Loneliness is a side project of Language Of Flowers.

The Under Electric Light remix of Styrofoam is from an open soutce remix project at Buffet Libre called "Proyecto Batidora".

have fun and as always - enjoy :)

#42 for the love of Sugarbears !!!!!!!

Starting today with a great little pop song by Very Truly Yours, which is yet another project of Kristine from Tiny Microphone ( & Shandybangs. Lorimer Sound et al ), the band were known at one stage as The Clovers ( and made it on to an Eardrums comp ). The mini scenette revolving around these bands in Chicago seems to be worth keeping an eye on.

The Pristines song is from a iTunes download only release, only $1.69, cheap as chips and worth buying :)

My favourite Glaswegians Lean Tales have been back into the studio and have two great new songs, which they're calling "The Green Door Studios Recordings", both are available from their virb site, which is a much better option now the new myspace music player is so slow and awful and prevents downloads ( all of of which are unwelcome and annoying by the way myspace...get your act together "Tom" ). They've still got those 2 comp appearances I mentioned last time I played them, but nothing else set for release, so I will wait patiently.

The Parallelograms song is apparentely going to be a Cloudberry 7 one day ( GREAT !! ),

After that it's a song from the new Celestial album "Crystal Heights", which is a joint MIMG/Lavender release and available from Klicktrack too.

Then a very sweet WeePop! release from Let's Whisper and an incredible song from Sugarbears from the Cloudberry ep "Where Are The Supremes Tonight ?". Sadly this is it for Sugarbears, one song !!! One damn fine killer song and then they split.........aaaaaaaah :(

We will have to wait for the Cloudberry reunion gig in 20 years time !!

After that it's an Airfields song which was promised to be coming out in the Northern Hemisphere Spring on a 10" version of "Never See You Smile" on a label called Unfamiliar Records, but to my knowledge ( happy to be corrected ) that never happened, and given it's now our Spring down under in the Southern Hemisphere and the label's website has gone awfully quiet since around July I am starting to doubt it ever will !!

Then the September release of Strawberry Story
( before they gave up the ghost ) on Anorak, some vintage MBV from the 12 of Sunny Sundae Smile, the b-side of the last VG 7 and ending with Sad Day For Puppets, a song which is a b-side to 2 releases they have - the new Little Light single and also a Japanese 7" release of "Hush" on Fastcut ( which incidentally my copy has fallen down behind my shelving and is going to be a pain to retrieve....after I only played it once it fell down there !! )

enjoy :)

#40 - Scottish Soup Vol 1

What ?? A Scottish comp without "xxxxx" and no tracks by "The xxxxx" ?? How about "xxxxx" ? Aaah that's why we have Vol 2 in a future moment...

The main principle for track selection just bits and bobs of vinyl I had lying around and that the bands started their existence in Scotland, and chuck in a few newer bands and off we go. Easy peasy lemon squeezy !
.

Then a few mini dramas - my Fizzbombs 7" has a scratch. One of those ones that causes the record to get stuck on a note for eternity. Fine if I was putting out a track on the Mego label but not fine if you love that single AND it was due to come up in the pile of my Sideroom 7" blog really soon, which is a problem to deal with later down the track. So it was CD86 to the rescue here today. And also Egg to the rescue for Remember Fun and I must say the whole Egg mission is one of the best things goin' on out there.

So then when I finally got to recording today's thing I think my turntable is starting to go on the fritz - it's wowing/slipping every now and then...which you can hear every now and then on this mix..gulp. This could be bad news so best to go into denial there as well.

Also not helping was the nature of flexi discs - which is where The Holidaymakers song is from - a great Whoosh flexi, shame because it's a great song ! I mean I love the Cincinnatti single ( both sides ) but Everyday is a scorcher - shame it only seems to be available as flexi sound quality.

Anyway enough digression, time to listen ;)

I'm keeping it short today because Blogger is doing weird things that are making hard to do this post...so just a few things you may wanna know -

The Catwalk tracks - firstly the A side of their new Yay! 7" and the 2nd song will hopefully graduate from their myspace where it is now to a full fledge release one day, the Sea Lions are next up on Yay !, The Winter Club is from the cd with Issue 7 of the terrific BottleRocket zine, it's a totally different version to the Shelflife release of FLowers by The Ruling Class, it's the Fandango 7" with the lead vocal duties having been swapped now, the Oliver North Boy Choir song is from their new ep, The Tamborines song is from their new clear vinyl 7", The Electric Pop Group track is from their forthcoming album and I still can't get that Wake song outa me head...

A live you-tube clip of The Sunny Street from last year to get things started today... and here's a new mix now I'm back on board and finished working midnight to dawn....

!! - Humans Beware Podcast 38

1. Memory's Gone - The Motifs
2. Clap Clap Clap - The Andersen Tapes
3. What Have You Ever Done - Mood Six
4. The Cats Of Camerford - The Tartans

8. College - The Sunny Street
9. Ice Cream - The Shandybangs
10. Sound Of Silence - Signed Papercuts
11. Some People - Northern Portrait

podcast 38- link for mp3

The Motifs song is from a new 3inch CDR on a Berlin label called Edition 59 ( each release limited to 59 copies ). The Andersen Tapes song is from their myspace and seems like it's a 2 year old demo they had lying around and dug up recently, here's hoping there's some other great secret treats they have hidden away.

The Tartans song is from one of 2 great 7's they have out at the moment, on Yay!, a perfect companion to their Cloudberry 7.

And clearly it always pays to regularly visit certain bands' myspace as The Garlands had a lovely new tune sitting as there and POBPAH have a preview of their upcoming Slumberland 7" / album with a killer of a song "Everything With You".

The Northern Portrait song is indeed yes a Cliff Richard !! Eeegads...from the Buffet Libre 80's cover project

14. Burnt Toast - Summer Cats
15. From A to B to See You ( Abelha version ) - The Honeyheads

podcast 37- link for mp3

We start today with a great sounding band from Glasgow called Lean Tales, featuring the amazing vocals of Imogen ( no last name given. but she also plays the 'VL-Tone' ), who have three great songs on their myspace, also available on their VIRB site as a download here. "Running Birthday Cake" is featured on the next Series Two Recs 4CD set ( the 2nd one this year ), again another great batch of songs - find out more/preorder here, I've only just gotten thru the first 4CD set, now they've dropped another one on us !!

After them it's time for the first of two songs from the great Eardrums free double comp, a band called Spaghetti Anywhere ( what looks like a Glaswegian/Italian combo ), definitely worth a visit to their myspace. There's some more info on them in the Eardrums download pdfs but I'm too lazy to read it tonight, so if you don't have the comp, go get it and read all about 'em !! And also from that comp later we hear from Funny Little Dream from Indonesia ( who had a Cloudberry ep earlier on this year ) and who also have some great other listening material on their myspace.

The Barbaras from the Memphis in the US and "Flow" from their Summertime Road 7" single on Goner Records, they're followed by the next Shelflife band Horse Shoes ( coming out after The Champagne Riot that is ).

An old chestnut from 1000 Violins, a track from the b-side of the 12 of "Please Don't Sandblast My House", then a great sounding new Manchester band called The Daybreaks, the first release on a label called V-Sign, run by Andrew Wake who ran the Medium Cool label back in the day. Crazy enough to run a second record label all this time later he seems to be on a winner here ( again ).

Then a fantastic effort from The Pains, their track on the Vol 4 of the essential Slumberland "Searching For The Now' series, backed by the very busy ( release wise ) Summer Cats - who have the Slumberland split plus their Cloudberry 7" and a 3"cd on WeePop ( which is where we hear "Burnt Toast" from later on ) - more than just being prolific all the Summer Cats songs out at the moment all sound terrific !

After the pains it's a Cosy recordings artist from Sweden called Erik Hallden and **the** gals of the moment are back - a name I've sure you keep seeing - Vivian Girls, this time it's the follow up 7 to "Wild Eyes", ie the Woodsist 7" and another version of "Tell The World", different to the one on the infamous "sold out" album, this version being recorded by the girls themselves.

It took me a while to track it down I finally found a CD release featuring The Winter Club, a live CD called 'Oxfam Field Recordings" recorded in the Oxfam Shop in Brighton, a comp featuring the girls and 15 other Brighton bands, and released on the Woodland Recordings label, one of 50 only ! ( Is it just me but are limited editions getting more limited these days...what's next ?? 25 Only ?? ). "The Big Trip" ( I suspect the studio version on their myspace ) is also coming out on Japanese comp called "Queens Of Sounds Vol 1" sometime this month. . And then of course I wait patiently for The Winter Club appearance on the Cloudberry/Bottle Rocket zine CD out very soon. I just yesterday loved reading Issue 6 of Bottle Rocket so can't wait for that one. I'm also amused by the little comment at the end of the song played today how she "injured her finger today today in a washing up accident"...first it was Toothaches and now washing-up accidents...oh...those girls !!

Tada Tata are 2 Swedish girls, and of course we know The Margarets from Cloudberry and "I Guess I'm Falling In Love" was apparentely recorded live in Stockholm on June 23, possibly a preview of the forthcoming Series Two album which will be brilliant, I can just tell ( "feel it in my waters" as they say ).

Rounding out the day with The Honeyheads who have released a free download ep called The Abelha Mestra Tapes, release via a label in Brasil called Midsummer Madness, pretty much similar to their Cloudberry ep but different mixes/versions .

All good so enjoy :)

#36, and I'm on the radio this Thurs

Before we get to today's mix if you're in Sydney I will be on the radio this Thursday from 12midday-1pm on FBI ( 94.5 FM) on a show called "Out of The Box" talking about music, specifically my "collection" and how music fits into my life - the program description is

"Each week we delve into someone's (anyone's) record collection and talk about the music they love, the life they lead and how the two interact'"

If you're out of Sydney and still keen, FBI streams online. The difficulty I'm having is keeping it down to a dull roar/only an hour ( i need at least 7 ) but I'll just see what happens when I get there.

Ok time for this week's mix..more about it below but here's what's on it -

!
! - Humans Beware Podcast 36

1. Lead Me To A Quiet Cell - The Mai 68's
2. Say What You Mean - Shandybangs
3. Carnival -
Shandybangs
4. You Disappear - Tiny Microphone
5. Prancing Pearl - Arctic Circle
6. Smiley - Warning! Vampires In Town!
7. Ordinary Days- AC Berkheimer
8. Yellow Eyes - Houdie
9. Backwards - The Motifs
10. Wash Wash Wash Away - Laughing Owls
11. Twenty Six Forty - Wisdom Tooth
12. World Upside Down - Tears Run Rings
13. What's The Matter With You - Hot Silk Pockets
14. The Games We Play - The Jealous Sea
15. Photograph - The Lorimer Sound

podcast 36- link for mp3

Mostly staying away from the usual haunt of Scandanavia today, with the exception of the Swedish one man outfit of Warning! Vampires in Town!, awful name mate, nice music, just not sure about the name !

The rest of the time is mostly spent in the US and the UK and today a Dutch band - the first I believe for this site, in the shape of AC Berkheimer, Dutch shoegaze I like it, suggested to me by Ferry from Rotterdam and a massive cheers for the tip off there !! The band has an album called "In A Series of Long Days" coming out soon and you can pre-order it on their myspace.

The Mai 68's are the latest and greatest on THE GREATEST label ever Cloudberry, then it's 2 from Shandybangs, which is one of 2 extra bands Kristine from Tiny Microphone is involved in the Chicago scene, the other being The Lorimer Sound, who end todays mix and also are ( it seems ) putting something out soon on a "small English indie label" ( whose identity remains a secret at this point ).

Houdie is one guy from Bristol and are just about to release an ep in some shape or form and Arctic Circle are also from the UK whose album you can order via their myspace.

Then I had to play some Motifs only because Houdie slightly reminded me of them - ever so slightly - and also because I'm jealous Alex from Alex Loves You And Your Silly Popsongs not only saw the Motifs live the other day she's also got a copy of the vinyl Motifs album - on clear vinyl...alas

Wisdom Tooth & Laughing Owls are the same woman from the US, also one half of Skelecopter ( so her name is either Lydia or Debbie, can't work out which one yet ).

The Jealous Sea song is I believe a demo version of a track they've got coming out on the infamous Haymarket Records comp which has been promised for years now but is possibly gonna make it out now the Apple Orchard CD is out, and there seems to be some talk the band will also be releasing on a 7" soon ( my main suspect for that is a Cloudberry 7" but don't quote me on that...just a suspicion !! )

as always, enjoy enjoy :)

#35...what the hell is a rhombus anyway

whatever it is I'm sure the Vivian Girls don't care !! Two more from them today....firstly "Where Do You Run to" from the criminally already sold out vinyl version of their album, thankfully to be reissued on CD/vinyl but not til the US "Fall" - another crime making us wait 3 months !! Meantime you'll have to buy the Wild Eyes 7 "single - did I stress enough HAVE to buy the Wild Eyes 7" single ?? And soon so you get one of the coloured records !! Also the song I played last week "Tell The World" is coming out soon as a totally different much rawer version on a 7" on the Woodsist label, eternally listed as coming out "soon".

Enough of those girls for now - after them we're off to Asia for a while with 2 Indonesian bands - Arch Of Cinema and Sunny Summer Day ( who have just released a new download only ep on Letterbox Records ) and then to Thailand for the highly fuzzed out Strawberry Someday Chocolate Everyday.

Then we're Norway bound for Roadmovie, off to Glasgow to hear an upcoming track from the 2nd Matinee release for Bubblegum Lemonade, some more fuzzy-friends in the shape(s) of Bless The Bomb ( Sweden ) and the ever impressive Parallelograms ( "Without You" being a great track on the next Cloudberry release ).

There's also some Stars in Coma action - one release back in time however, The Soldiers Ep, though it's so hard to keep up with the squillion Stars in Coma's releases. Bonnie & Clyde are back with a great new release on Bonjour Recordings. After them some unreleased Swedes - Losin' Boy and the "why the hell is he so obscure because he's great" My Lily Of The Valley

Rounding out the action in the US with Katie The Pest.

please enjoy :)

#34 they keep me hangin' on

I know chances are as soon as I put this post up it'll happen...but I'm H-A-N-G-I-N-G out for that new Liechtenstein 7"...come on friends at Fraction Discs, put us out of misery soon please and release it !! Meantime at end of this post you can see the girls in action at Indietracks late last year doing a live version the evergreen "Stalking Stills".

Some other "girls" I'm a recent convert too are the Vivian Girls. Woah...nice one - massive thanks to Indie Mp3.co for putting me onto them, though they the secret too long and the album's sold out !! ...

Today's mix has an occassional slight psych flavour, no real reason just the way it happened..

We also have a double from Shelflife, one from The Ruling Class package ( in fact the a-side of the 7" ) and then a track from the "next band" on the label The Champagne Riot. The Ruling Class will also be releasing a 7" single of "Flowers" ( another evergreen ) in July on the Fandango label ( available for pre-order ).

Dag För Dag are Sarah and Jacob Snavely from Sweden and the song today is from their Symmetry Of Standing cd-r which is well worth snavelling up from either from their myspace or here.

The Apple Orchard "Half Steps Towards Bright Skies" album, on their own Haymarket label, is another must buy, so mosy on over to their myspace and fork out your cash !!!!

Oliver North Boy Choir are a Danish 3 piece, who had few releases thus far, the latest being the Weekender single, again a myspace visit will sort you out re how to get a copy ( also available as a Kilcktrack download )

Cocoanut Groove have had a few plays here already and of course the Bookbinder 7" is a cracker but I know I said this last time but "apparentely" there is meant to be a Cocoanut Groove album "eventually" on Fridlyst Music, and lets hope that's soon :)

The Postal Blue track is from "Still Unravished" the June Brides tribute album, which is still available at a special cheap price from the YesBoyIceCream shop.

Oh and I included an old classic from Always - as in Kevin Wright of The Dreamers earlier band, only because he's got another project called The Party & The Guests which nearly made it onto the mix today, but didn't...next time maybe. 'Dreams Of Leaving" having a touch of Felt, Josef K and early Gobs - perfectomondo !

as always...enjoy :)

!
! - Humans Beware Podcast 34

1. Like A House On Fire - The Kick Inside
2. Cross Country - The Andersen Tapes
3. Tell The World - Vivian Girls
4. Ring Me Elise - Dag For Dag
5. Dreams Of Leaving - Always
6. Umbrella Folds - The Ruling Class
7. Scandinavian Warfare - Champagne Riot
8. The Modern Song - The Numbers
9. Night Animal - Burning Hearts
10. Harsh - Apple Orchard
11. Weekender - Oliver North Boy Choir
12. Josef's Gone - Postal Blue
13. Stupid Ocean - Adam & the Amethysts

#33 - an all girl thing

All girl bands/singers today !!

Starting with an upcoming Cloudberry thing from Stockholm residents Lovingly Yours, new The Motifs ( possibly on a upcoming 12" album that's coming out ) then a band I don't know how I came across - the old
routine of "friend of friends of friends" of someone on myspace, they're called The Autumn Apples ( yeah...more Swedes )..sadly there's only one song on their myspace, but it's great and thus it's appearance here....here's hoping for another song from them one day soon !

Then Blackberry Wine, which is an offshoot project of Rachel from The Local Heroes. 'I Talk to You" is featured both on the Series Two 4CD comp I mentioned last time and also on a CD-r called "The Look Back Time" available from the Blackberry Wine myspace or here ( where there's a few bonus downloads ) The CD-r also has 'Time Please People" which was the song featured last time they got a play on this blog (#22) and besides I love owning the CD-r straight from the band...( The Local Heroes also have some new demos on their myspace too which are definitely worth a listen ).

After that, the Brighton Girls are back...nah it's NOT a Celestial song...it's The Winter Club, who've put some news songs up on their myspace ( but they've taken down "Do You Like To Dance" sadly ). Bonnie & Clyde join us after that with the title track from "Life Is A Peanut" their pre-Cloudberry CD-r.

The Wise Acres song is from the ep which features the awesome song "So Finally Sweet"...then I know I mention them nearly every post...but yes...Slow Down Tallahassee. The song is Beautiful Light and is the title song from their album which is released in 10 days ( and counting as I type this ). As you no doubt would know from various sources the song is available as a free download single from Thee SPC...and you would also know it's FUCKING TERRIFIC. I listen to it on average about 10 or so times a day. I totally love it - more than I would have ever expected.

The School are after that with the title track from their CDep on Elefant - follow up to the beautiful pink vinyl of "All I Wanna Do"....yes Ian Catt doing his usual great job.

And a second Aussie appearance in the shape of Tiny Little Tiny Things from Melbourne

as always...enjoy :)

great Je Suis Animal acoustic clip

http://handheldshows.blogspot.com/2008/03/10-je-suis-animal.html

a great clip of Je Suis Animal singing Secret Place live on the streets of Norway...simply beautiful !!

Besides this song being great itself, I love how the singer uses her Norwegian English accent in a musical way.

L'orchestre a joué une mélodie douce !!
